Liquidation is a business

Lundi, novembre 10th, 2008

In Paris, you can find many shops selling carpets that always seem to be on the brink of closing for renovation. It is a well known trick to make you believe that you will get a great deal. Obviously, this is not the case so watch out if you ever think of buying a carpet in Paris …

Louis The Spy

Dimanche, novembre 9th, 2008

This weekend a flea market took place in Rue de Clerc close to the Saint-Germain Boulevard. You could find dozens of stands with goods ranging from antique mirrors to baroque painting. In one of them a painted King looked like if he was spying on this woman, probably bored after years of standing still.

Samedi, novembre 8th, 2008

Columbus Coffees are the French equivalent of Starbucks. This girl with the wireless computer looked like the main character of a shooting for an ad campaign for this company. Unluckily, the main ingredient seems to be missing …

Brasserie Lorraine’s cook

Vendredi, novembre 7th, 2008

Brasserie Lorraine is one of Paris’ famous brasserie. Though it translates literally to « brewery », traditionally it relates more to a restaurant where you can find quick food and alcohol. In this case, Brasserie Lorraine is a luxury stop which is specialized in great seafood. Unluckily, the service has not been up to the reputation lately, so much that last time I left after 30 minutes unattended. The reason could be that the cooks were all outside having a smoke …

Hamilton won!

Jeudi, novembre 6th, 2008

This man was reading a special weekend edition on the American elections in front of the majestuous Opera Garnier.  A closer look will show that he was probably more interested in Hamilton’s winning the Formula One championship then US politics.

A chat by the river

Mercredi, novembre 5th, 2008

This group of friends was enjoying a sunny day under the Passerelle Debilly where this old boat docked. Though usually much bigger, you will encounter hundreds of barges on the banks of the Seine, most of them having been converted to homes for the enjoyment of the lucky owners.

Jam on the Pont des Arts

Mardi, novembre 4th, 2008

The Pont des Arts  is a pedestrian bridge that links the Louvres Palace to the Institute of Arts (a governmental agency that oversees all issues related to Arts in France). It is quite usual to find all kind of activities and people on this bridge, ranging from the typical sunny day picnics to musicians looking for inspiration over the Seine River. In this case, the lead singer stayed quiet as if he had lost his flow of words.

One night of magic

Lundi, novembre 3rd, 2008

The only place in France where you will see American style limousine is on les Champs-Elysées. Fashion stars, businessmen or even young couples cannot resist a magic ride up and down the Avenue.

Carnavalet Museum

Dimanche, novembre 2nd, 2008

Down in the fourth arrondissement, you will find the Carnavalet museum which relates the History of Paris. Through the dozens of rooms, you can discover how Paris evolved from a tiny burgade to today’s megapolis. This picture represents a scale model of Paris with a large crowd in front of the Hotel the Ville in the 19th century.

Halloween in Paris

Samedi, novembre 1st, 2008

Virtually unknown in France a decade ago, Halloween had some momentum the last few years but it did not succed to become such a big event as in the USA. Therefore few dressed-up people could be seen last night on Les Champs-Elysées yet I did find a little group of horrendous witches …
