Leica M9 Launch today, sample picture

Great news today as the first full format digital M Leica was finally anounced. This camera has a 24 x 36mm sensor that will replace the brave M8. I had a chance to try one this afternoon and something tells me that pictures on this blog will soon be taken by this camera ;) I am not a pro so I will let others review it such as www.stevehuffsphoto.com or www.reidreviews.com but my first impressions is that this is the digital M camera that so many have been waiting for. So here is my first test picture taken with the 35mm Summilux Asph. Click on picture to see the full size picture (slightly compressed). Note that you can also look at this picture unprocessed by clicking here.

As for the story of this picture, simple, this woman had her breath taken away as she saw the new Leica M9 in the window of PhotoSuffren.

I’m pretty sure that I’ll never be able to own a M9 – but nevertheless, I’ll enjoy checking out all images shot with this camera.

sweet! the isolation and bokeh with this lens is especially gorgeous full frame — it gives it an altogether different feel.

yes cam, I was very surprised by the isolation capability of the lens, even a few meters out, that was not possible on the M8. I wonder how the 24 Lux looks on it ;)

  4. cam dit :

but you already have a gorgeous 24mm — i’d rather see the 21.

seriously, the more i look, the more i want. sigh… the M9 makes these lenses sing!

Would it be possible to post the DNG? I use the M8 and Lightroom and manipulate a lot of EXIF data, I’d like to see the structure from the M9!

    Thanks if possible!!

I realized afterwards that my test shot was taken in JPG and not DNG, so sorry I don’t have it. When I receive the M9, I will provide a DNG.
This being said, the out of camera JPG quality is a huge improvement over the M8. So much that it tricked me to believe it was a DNG file ,,,

This is a good camera for the price. It is simple to use and takes clear, crisp pictures. Also, the battery life is good. And the price makes it affordable to take good pictures.
